As she grows, develops and explores her world I stand back…amazed. Mommy amazement. This child that 19 months ago I held in my arms for the very first time is now walking, communicating and showing signs of her independence. Something miraculous.

Throughout our days together communication is happening more and more. Being around her all the time gives me an advantage in understanding her expressions. The words she uses are not what we say in our common language yet I understand her.

Ra means phone.

Be is grapes.

Wa-wa equals water.

And the list could go on. Those words mean exactly what she wants them too. As her mommy, I get the privilege of deciphering her code. I get to walk with her as she learns and grows.

Reflecting on communication with my daughter brought me to a precious and holy place. A place of spiritual communication. We are all uniquely created sons and daughters of the living God. We all grow and develop at different rates in our spiritual walks. Communication is part of that growing. As we walk with the Lord we develop a language with Him. My language with God may look different from your language with Him however He understands us both.

When we spend quality time with someone. When we grow beside them we have a special bond. Likewise, as we grow closer to God. As we walk with Him and listen to His voice a bond forms. A communication that only we understand within that precious relationship.

In my school age days, I had a best friend (and still is to this day). We did so much together that people thought we were sisters. We could be sitting in a room talking and laughing yet no one else understood us. Our own language had formed. A deep connection. A language of our own in that friendship.

Our connection with God can be similar and more. God understands us intimately and wants us to grow and flourish in that intimacy. Walking with the Lord is a continually growing and deepening relationship. We should never arrive at a place of stagnant relationship with Him. Growing always. Communicating, drawing nearer.

I don’t know about you, but I want that kind of relationship with God. I want to grow in our language that it becomes natural and part of me every moment. When He speaks I want to understand without a touch of doubt. When I talk with Him I want to speak my heart with no reservation.

Our relationship with God can be like that. Holy. Beautiful.
