Failure. Daily that word rings in my ears. Daily I feel the weight of shortcomings. The inadequacy in my relationships with my children, husband and heavenly Father. Lack of patience as my two-year-old runs in the opposite direction instead of putting on her shoes. My frustration with my 4-month-old who is restless due to teething. And my nightly leftovers I serve my husband. On top of it all, I can’t remember the last time I had a quality quiet time with my Father.

The mud of life. The mess that sticks to my shoes and weighs me down. The stench I can’t get away from. The words: failure and inadequate. Some days they hang on me heavy like thick spring mud. Stuck.

While life is messy. While being a wife and mother are chaotic. They are also beautiful and rewarding.

If we allow ourselves to stay in the mud life, we will always be dirty. But if we choose to see the joys, the sunlight we will find the beauty. If we choose to see the giggles. The excitement of little things like a scoop of ice cream for dessert or finding the lost pink crayon. If we choose to nourish with joy. Give with grace. Love unconditionally. If we choose 5 minutes with God over scrolling through Facebook. If we find a babysitter one evening so our husband can have his wife to himself for a few hours.

Living in the sunlight is better than the mud. Dancing in the moments of truth rather than wallowing in the words of condemnation.

Yes, we fail as wives, mothers and daughters from time to time. However, we have an awesome Father who forgives and provides grace and strength… new, fresh every single day.

Walk in the sunlight. The sticky mud of life will dry up. Fall off.

You were made for the light. Not the mud. Live in the Light.
