Time. It’s a crazy thing. Measured from seconds to hours. The same amount in each day and yet can feel fast or slow.

One day the hours fly by. The next the minutes drag on. Sometimes we have no time and in other seasons too much.

Lately, I have been struggling with time. The question of how do I use my time? And is what I am doing the best use of time?

My daughter is asleep in the next room. The house is quiet. Awww! It won’t last long. What should I do? Mop the floors. Write. Curl up in my bed and disappear for a little while. Or maybe even just dance around my living room with the music cranked up just because I can.

Each day, we have so many choices. Options of how to spend our time. When we really stop and think about it, it is overwhelming.

The greater question I am pondering: how does God want me to spend my time? What choices further the kingdom work? How in my little house in the middle of Missouri country can I make a difference? How can my choices change lives? My life even?

Yesterday was one of those days where everything inside of me wanted to slide under the covers and stay there. My soul was as grey as the cloudy sky. While I have moments where I want to pout and hide I am also someone who easily feels lazy in rest even when it is needed rest. So I went to work. I scrubbed the floors. As I stood to my knees the floors shined. In contrast, my heart didn’t. Nothing changed. I was still tired, overwhelmed, and discouraged inside.

While the floors got checked off my list yesterday I am not sure that was the best choice, the ideal use of my time. Did anything change? Only the sticky smudges on my floor. My heart still weak, broken. Were the floors part of kingdom work yesterday? No, no I don’t believe so.

Time. Every day we breathe there is time. How should we use it? Are we asking God? Or are we basing our usage off of selfish desires, a need to impress or straight up rebellion?

Let’s pause. Let’s remember how much God cares about every part of our day. Every need that we have. Let’s ask Him first. Seek His will, His desire first.
