As a mommy, I have learned the importance of big pockets. In a day, you never know what those pockets may need to carry. Tissues, wipes, toys, cheerios that have fallen on the floor and maybe even…a diaper.
You know what I mean, the title of “mom” somehow also comes with the title of “woman with many hands and the carry of all things”. Yes, we need big pockets, oversized purses and extra large diaper bags.
While often times my analogies deal with comparisons in our relationship with God today is going to be different. Today, it is opposite. With God as our Lord and Father, we don’t have to be the “carrier of all things”. We don’t need to have extra large bags holding all our stuff and everyone else’s.
Our life, our world gets very messy when we attempt to carry instead of letting go. When we carry around in our purses and pockets things like bitterness, envy, unforgiveness, sin and anger. Those things weigh us down. Those things keep us from a pure relationship with our God.
As a mom we may have the title of “woman with many hands and bags” however as a child of God we are free! Free to let go of every burden. Every snot rag, every soggy cloth, every distraction, every defiled fruit and every smell. Yes, we are totally and absolutely free to let go of it all at the feet of our sweet Savior. He paid the price. He paid it all so we don’t have to be the “carrier of all things”.
Let it go. Let. it. all. go. Empty your pockets. Let the bags drop to the floor. You are a child of God, not a “stuff holder”. Embrace the truth that Jesus came to set you free. Every soul free!
John 8:31-32 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ESV
1 John 3:1(a) Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! NKJV
Galatians 5:1 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. NLT
Galatians 5:24-26 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another. NLT
Matthew 11:30 “For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” NLT
Yes, He has set us free to love as He loves and He promises to carry us through the hard times.
