Wide awake. 3:00 a.m. Thoughts racing. The haunting, overwhelming thought of the coming week, the events before us. A path I do not want. A path we, as husband and wife did not choose. Yet, here we are. Right before it. Only our steps left to be taken. Only our pride, our fear left to be swallowed.

It is 3:00 a.m. and I am overwhelmed. Unsure. Afraid. What will the next few days be like? The next few weeks? Can I do this? Can I make it through?

I realize as I lay there flat on my back staring into the darkness. I can’t do this on my own. I don’t have the strength physically or emotionally. However, I know the ONE who does. He has been faithful before; He will be faithful again. My strength, even the strength of our marriage isn’t enough to carry us through the trials and storms.

One strength. Only One strength can conquer…it all!

I must feel the fear and let it go. Give it to my Almighty Father. Embracing the fear will destroy me in the coming days. Letting it go. Giving it up. That is where the victory is. Victory moves in times of surrender. This may seem contrary to military tactic but in the battlefield of faith, our spiritual tactics are different. Letting go, giving God control leads to victory. Leads to a place of peace.

Our spiritual battles are not fought with our strength. No, they are fought with our surrender and HIS strength.

It is okay to feel overwhelmed, to feel afraid as long as we choose to then let it go. Fear cannot rule us. God cannot move in a fearful heart. God moves in a surrendered heart.

In such situations let us pray for the willingness to let go. Pray for pride to fall and God’s strength to invade our minds and hearts.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. NKJV

Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. ESV

Romans 8:31-32  What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? NLT

James 4:6-8a  But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. ESV
