Lifting the black strap to my shoulder the weight causes imbalance. What is in here?! This is a diaper bag. Surely there is more in this bag than diapers. Diapers by themselves are not this heavy.
You Mommas know. Yes, the diaper bag becomes a store all…diapers, wipes, extra clothes, wallet, last week’s grocery list, several church bulletins, the kids’ snack trash, and so on. The diaper bag…the catch all.
As I was holding the diaper bag and wondering how it got so messy I realized something. My heart often carries a burden bag as well. Sometimes it’s more like a giant suitcase…without wheels…if you know what I mean. Disappointment, frustration, rejection, bitterness, envy, anger…they really make a mess inside.
A bag that I don’t even need to carry. A bag that doesn’t have the “goods” I need for the journey. A bag that simply weighs me down. Pressing the heart…heavy.
Holding onto the diaper bag I realize its time. It is time to unload, reorganize. Time to throw away the garbage. And the extra clothes from two sizes ago. Yeah, that’s helpful! Unload. Reorganize.
As well, the heart. The burden bag. What is in there? It is time to unload, reorganize. Time to throw away the junk…disappointment, frustration, rejection, bitterness, envy, anger. Time to find the clothes that fit. The clothes that fit a daughter of the King. Joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, compassion. They lift the heart. Weightless.
God will take your burden bag. He will take the load, reorganize. God will steady your heart from the bag imbalance. God is waiting for you to bring your burden bag.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. NKJV
1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. NIV
Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ESV
Mark 5:34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.” NLT
And about that diaper bag…well, that is one you will probably have to tackle yourself. But I know you can do it. You got this, girl!
This is one of my favorites. I may not carry a diaper bag anymore but I can relate with my messy purse. I may be able to clean up my purse but I need God’s help to clean up my heart . I am so thankful that He “gently” convicts and replaces the junk with the Fruit of the Spirit so I can respond properly and not react to the stressers in my day.
