It doesn’t seem that long ago that she was attached. Attached by a cord that fed her, nourished her. The physical cord may be gone now however an invisible one remains.
She is gaining confidence and independence. Watching her both at home and when we are out and about. She loves to explore and discover yet she comes back to “safety” often. Mommy is safety. The place she knows will help her, hold her, comfort her, refresh her.
As long as she knows the cord will provide her what she needs she will continue to come back. Again and again.
Yesterday as my daughter was playing about our home she wandered into her bedroom. With a new fascination with doors, she began to gently swing it shut until it was closed all the way. At first, she was quiet. Then came the cries. The cord was out of sight, disconnected. She was alone in a dark room and unsure of what to do.
Likewise, sin. Our sins lead us into a dark room, all alone. When we are following after sin we are not connected to the One who comforts, protects, and provides for us. When we choose to walk into a room and close the door. When we choose sin over righteousness we are cutting the cord. We are turning our back on comfort, protection, and needs being met.
All it took for my daughter to have safety again was a cry, cry for help. Immediately, help came.
When we find ourselves disconnected from the cord. When we find ourselves in a dark room of sin it only takes one cry, a sincere cry for help. And He will come. God will come to our aide, reach out to us in love.
We are weak but He is strong. He is the true Comforter, Protector, Provider.
If you are feeling like the door in closed, the cord cut. Search your heart. Call out in the name of Jesus. He is there on the other side of the door…waiting…waiting for you.
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! ESV
Isaiah 59:1-2 Listen! The Lord’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call. It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. NLT
Psalm 57:1-2 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me. ESV
John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. NKJV
Ephesians 2:2-5 You followed the sinful ways of the world and obeyed the leader of the power of darkness. He is the devil who is now working in the people who do not obey God. At one time all of us lived to please our old selves. We gave in to what our bodies and minds wanted. We were sinful from birth like all other people and would suffer from the anger of God. But God had so much loving-kindness. He loved us with such a great love. Even when we were dead because of our sins, He made us alive by what Christ did for us. You have been saved from the punishment of sin by His loving-favor. NLT
It’s easy to get distracted and forget that I am here by the grace of God to do the work of God. So grateful for that “cord” that keeps me connected to the source.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (John 15:4-7)
