Our family is getting ready to go on a trip. We have been planning and anticipating this trip for weeks. The excitement continues to rise as we think about the people we will see and the things we will do. Naturally I have a heart for adventure. Roadtrips tickle me to the core.
As I think about all the items we need for the week and I start packing our bags mentally a thought keeps floating to the surface. I am spending time, energy preparing for this trip. This short trip; it is only a week long. I am excited about the trip. I am anticipating having good times. There is nothing wrong with that. Yet I pause this morning. Isn’t there a greater journey?
Some day it will be time, time for me to go Home. God has promised eternal life to His children. A gift I do not deserve.
Am I anticipating my “Home”? Am I packed and ready? Am I looking forward to the good times?
Life is busy, full, chaotic. But should that distract me from the most important? Every moment. Everyday. All of life is a journey. A road leading, leading Home. Some day I will reach the end. Someday the journey will end will I be ready? Will I have what I need?
Our family trip is just a week, short. Life’s end is the beginning of eternity. Eternity is longer than our week trip. Eternity is important. It is worth thinking about, anticipating, being prepared for.
Let’s pack what we need along this journey. Let’s please the One waiting for us in eternity.
Romans 2:7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life ESV
Galatians 6:8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. ESV
Jude 1:20-21 But you, beloved, build yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. ESV
I wrote this Mission Statement many years ago but each time I read it, it still speaks to where my heart is today.
“With Jesus as my example and living each day in light of eternity, I purpose to live a life of integrity characterized by holiness, commitment, and a thankful attitude.”
