The clock blares bright white numbers 12:25 a.m. For the last 5 hours the baby has been restless. Bedtime routine started at 7 p.m. Eat, awake, play upstairs, bounce, fall asleep, lay down, awake, bounce around the room, awake, eat, lay in bed, awake, rock, asleep, eat…endless circle.

It has been a full week. Christmas celebrations with family out of state. We are all out of the routine. Short nights, blessed and full days.

The baby not sleeping and we don’t understand why he is up and down for so many hours. I am exhausted in and out of it. My dear husband taking one for the team.

1 a.m. I lay him down and he sleeps until 6 am. Finally, rest for us all.

In the dim light of morning, I unzip his sleep sack and discover a hard plastic duck tucked behind his leg. Could this have been the problem? This duck in his sack poking him every time he rolled to his side? The duck in his sack! If only we had opened his sack in the night we would have exposed the duck – the cause of discomfort.

My husband and I joke, laugh at this discovery. However, we see a deeper truth.
Do we ever get a duck our sac? Have you experienced a duck in your sack?
Maybe it is unexposed or unconfessed sin. Maybe it is a lie you believe. Maybe it is ignorance or pride. Whatever the duck may be it is keeping us from the comfort, peace, and joy in the Lord. Keeping us from rest.
A duck can cause discomfort not just for ourselves. Our baby’s discomfort was also keeping us, his parents from rest. The duck in your sack does not just affect you.

Let’s ask God to help us expose, confess, and remove the duck from our sacks. I want rest, pure uninterrupted rest. Do you? Are you willing to open your sack, open your heart to the Lord to find the duck?
