I am in my chair. my writing corner. About to press fingers to keys when I see a spider suspended in mid-air. Immediately I jump. Spiders are not welcome in my home. Retrieving a tissue I come back to the area where the spider was. However, he is not there. Not in site.

My heart flips a little knowing the spider is lurking somewhere, but I can no longer see him. Thinking I realize I need a different angle, a new perspective. While I was getting the tissue he must have descended more. On my hands and knees, I look again and there he is. One quick move. He is done. Victory. Victory over the spider. Relief enters my mind. Freedom to continue my day.

A silly story about a spider and my slight fear of them…What does that have to do with anything? Well, in that moment I felt the Lord speak into my heart. Speak to me about an area I was pondering just last week. The enemy and his lies. How do I combat them? How do I secure myself in truth? Through the spider story, God reminded me that sometimes in situations all I need is a fresh perspective, a new angle.

When I am staring at the lie, of course, all I will see is the lie. Yet if I move, if I look for a new angle I might see God’s grace, mercy, or love. You see, looking down for the spider was not working. I was just filling with thoughts and fears. When I got down to the floor, humbled my stance I saw something very different. With clarity, I could attack the spider. Just like with the clarity of God’s truth, His light, and love we can move boldly toward the enemy and combat his lies.

Truth will always have victory over Satan! Love will always win. Victory is for those who trust in the Lord!
