The unknown. New territory. Steps we never have taken before. It can feel daunting. Overwhelming. One part of us wants to press through. Just do it. Walk in faith instead of fear. Another part of us shrinks back. Hiding in the known, the comfortable, the familiar. In our heads race thoughts from the past. The mistakes and failures we have made. How can we charge into new lands when we are so messed up? How can we move from the very place we are and not tremble at the thought of the might be’s lurking ahead?

That mountain of change feels both exciting and intimidating. It could be a new job, going back to school, getting married, adopting a child, becoming an empty nester, retiring. All of these are good, right? All of these are part of this thing we do called life. Yet the steps to achieve feel like walking straight up a mountain. What is up there anyway? I have never been there before.

Even when God calls us. Even when we hear Him whisper “Go”, fear can still grip us. Our faith shakes. Our hearts pound. Why does this feel difficult when God is right here in it? Why does it seem impossible to put one foot out even when I know God is asking me too?

If you have felt this way you are not alone. Think of the lives of those who have gone before us. Those men and women God chose to share with us in the Bible. Esther, Jonah, Abraham, Moses, Sarah, Joseph, David and more. All men and women called by God. Knew God yet struggled. Struggled to take the steps into their callings. Some stumbled. Some made mistakes. But God, He was bigger than it all. God still worked in and through these people. He is mighty and will not let go. When we ask; He provides. God paid a high price for us all. He will fight for you.

Pray into that first step, my friends. God is there. He will guide the second and third and so on. God does not look at our past failures. No, that is Satan. Don’t be afraid to shout, “Get behind me, Satan!” Jesus did it, you can too.

The unknown. New territory. Steps we have never taken before are an opportunity. An opportunity to choose faith over fear. Which are you choosing?
