Have you ever found yourself standing in the kitchen with a friend or your spouse having a deep conversation? Even though comfortable couches exist in the room next door…just a few steps away you still are glued to the floor. Afraid to move. Afraid the conversation will stop flowing.

I can remember this happening often with my roommate back in the day. We rarely used our living room. The kitchen was just as comfortable to our souls.

Now in marriage, I find this scenario continues. We stand in the kitchen. Talking, visiting about our day. Often I am in process with dinner or we are cleaning up and the little one is at our feet. More and more lately, she is quickly frustrated with this situation. Her mind might be thinking something like this…”Mommy and Daddy are way up there having a good ‘ole time and I can’t see a thing! I feel felt out!”

The cries follow. With the quick patter of her feet. Her actions call, “Pick me up! PICK. ME. UP!”

The second she enters our arms she is satisfied, content.

Yesterday as this scenario played out I realized something. After I picked her up I said to my husband, “She likes it better up here. And I think this could be a blog post.”

Yes, in my arms her perspective changes. Suddenly she can see the world from my point of view. Suddenly the situation is clear.

How often do I stand at the feet of Jesus? Crying, stamping my feet. Crying out, “I just want to see THIS from Your perspective. Just PICK me up.”

While that is not all bad. It’s good to be at His feet. It’s beautiful to talk with Him. Yet, my heart is not trusting, surrendered. Believing that God knows best even when I cannot see. Even when all I can see are feet I need to trust that God, the Author of the big picture is in control. I need to let faith win. Let faith carry me in contentment until its time. Until its time for God to reach down and bring me up; up so I can see from His perspective.

Hebrews 11:1,2,11  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony…11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. ESV
