Dump truck after dump truck. Load after load. Leaving tire tread up and down our little dirt road.<\/p>\n
The heavy rains over the weekend did not go unnoticed. Tense rain in a short amount of time produced fierce streams where water was not meant to flow.<\/p>\n
Washed out! Dirt moved in the water’s current. Road vanished under the pressures. Gone. Washed out!<\/p>\n
As I watched truck after truck climb up and down our little dirt road my mind swirled and heart flipped inside my chest.<\/p>\n
Am I the road? Am I carried away so quickly in seasons of intense rain? Am I caught off guard by the August rain? Do God’s promises wash from me as the dirt in water’s current?<\/p>\n
And my heart flips inside me. I do not desire to be as tossed in the wind or caught in the rushing currents of the world around me.<\/p>\n
Ephesians 4:14\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,<\/em> NKJV<\/p>\n How do we stand firm? How do we fold fast?<\/p>\n Daily. Daily work. Being present with Jesus.\u00a0Meditating on His promises.<\/p>\n A few of God’s promises I am reminded of today:<\/p>\n Loved<\/strong><\/p>\n 1 John 4:9-10\u00a0God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.<\/span> <\/em>This is real love\u2014not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.<\/em> NLT<\/span><\/p>\n Ephesians 3:17-18\u00a0Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God\u2019s love and keep you strong.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/sup>And may you have the power to understand, as all God\u2019s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.<\/em> NLT<\/span><\/p>\n God is our Refuge<\/strong><\/p>\n Psalm 18:2\u00a0The Lord<\/span> is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.<\/em> ESV<\/p>\n God is our Strength<\/strong><\/p>\n Psalm 28:7 \u00a0The Lord<\/span> is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.<\/em> ESV<\/p>\n Never Alone<\/strong><\/p>\n Hebrews 13:5 …\u201cI will <\/em>never\u00a0leave you nor forsake you.\u201d<\/em> NKJV<\/p>\n Salvation<\/strong><\/p>\n Romans 1:16\u00a0For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.<\/em> ESV<\/p>\n Forgiveness<\/strong><\/p>\n Ephesians 4:32\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.<\/em> NIV<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Take some time to reflect and dig deeper into God’s promises. Let them settle into your heart. When the rains come, may we remain firm and not be washed away, washed out. This is my prayer for us today.
