Recently as I have listened to the radio I have been touched by the songs about giants. Songs that speak to the heart of our fears. Lyrics that touchdown in the center of our hearts. Giving a voice to the places of unsettling, insecurity, fear. Deep inside, the place that keeps our feet from moving and our hands from serving.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Do you remember the story of David? A boy with faith to conquer fears. David did not hesitate. David did not question God’s faithfulness or that He was good. Boldly, David approached fear. Take a minute to read, to sit with God’s story through David…<\/p>\n
1 Samuel 17<\/em><\/p>\n 32\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cDon\u2019t worry about this Philistine,\u201d David told Saul. \u201cI\u2019ll go fight him!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n 33\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cDon\u2019t be ridiculous!\u201d Saul replied. \u201cThere\u2019s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You\u2019re only a boy, and he\u2019s been a man of war since his youth.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n 34\u00a0<\/sup>But David persisted. \u201cI have been taking care of my father\u2019s sheep and goats,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock,<\/span> 35\u00a0<\/sup>I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.<\/span> 36<\/sup>I have done this to both lions and bears, and I\u2019ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!<\/span> 37\u00a0<\/sup>The Lord<\/span> who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n 45\u00a0<\/sup>David replied to the Philistine, \u201cYou come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord<\/span> of Heaven\u2019s Armies\u2014the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.<\/span> <\/em>46\u00a0<\/sup>Today the Lord<\/span> will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!<\/em> NLT<\/span><\/p>\n What are you facing today? Is there a giant in front of you? Are you trembling or trusting that God is able, that God is good?\u00a0<\/p>\n Even in our fears, God’s story can shine. Even in our moments of struggle, God will shine His\u00a0light.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many years ago when I was on a mission trip I stood in front of a sea of teenage eyes. Fear welled in my throat. Every part of me wanted to run, wanted to find a place of safety. Yet I knew God was good. I knew God was good to me. He would not let the fear suffocate\u00a0me. God would not let my past consume me. With shaky hands, I stood in front\u00a0of that group that day. I told them my story, the story God was writing in and through me. Shame could have consumed me. However, God shined His glory through my dark times. I was changed. I was not the same young girl cutting her arms day after day. No, I was free. Fear had no place. The enemy wanted me to stay in fear yet God had something better for me.\u00a0<\/p>\n I don’t know that I touched any hearts that day. But I know God did. God touched my heart and reminded me that He is good. He is good to me.\u00a0<\/p>\n Friends, God is good to you too. Do you see it? Let the giants be defeated.
