It’s breakfast time and I actually have a plan. We are going to have cinnamon raisin french toast! Yes, finally something besides cold cereal. I am thrilled! Cold cereal feels like such a cop-out. A last resort I use daily in this season of little ones.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Setting this glorious breakfast in front of my two-year-old she begins to cry. Cry, pout and cry some more.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After quite some time she tells us she doesn’t want the french toast. No, she wants cereal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I am shocked! Cereal over french\u00a0toast. Wait! What!?<\/p>\n
And a similar\u00a0scene about a week later. Heading home from church one Sunday afternoon we are all pretty hungry. My husband, the thoughtful husband and father he is pulls into a fast food place to make lunch simpler\u00a0when we get home. After pondering the deal menu we decide to get our daughter a hot dog.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sitting down at the table my husband opens the paper wrapping and discovers a hefty hot dog surrounded by a bun that looks like it had been pressed by a flat iron. Nonetheless, he cuts the hot dog and bun into pieces. As the meal progresses our daughter chooses to eat one bite of the hot dog and the entire smooshed bun.<\/p>\n
Wait! What!?\u00a0<\/p>\n
While my two-year-olds choices seem silly I also recognize that she isn’t that different from us adults. How often do we take cold lies instead of God’s glorious truth? Do we not choose man’s misformed ideas instead of belief, faith and hope?<\/p>\n
I know I do. Often times daily. Daily I eat lies about who I am instead of putting the truth of my God-given identity on my plate. Hourly I choose to please man instead of believing in my Holy, Powerful God.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Do you see it? Do you see God’s desire for us being tossed to the side for cereal and smooshed buns?\u00a0<\/p>\n
How can we change? How can we choose daily, hourly the better things? The things of God over the things of man and this world?\u00a0<\/p>\n
It starts with prayer. Asking God to open our eyes. It continues with getting into His word. Allowing Him to renew and transform our minds. Are you up for the challenge? The challenge that will change your choices for the rest of your life? Choices that will bring you deeper satisfaction than a bowl of cold cereal!<\/p>\n
Romans 12:2\u00a0Do not be conformed to this world, but be\u00a0transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.<\/em> ESV<\/p>\n And in another translation…<\/p>\n Romans 12:2\u00a0Don\u2019t copy the <\/em>behavior and customs of this world, but let God\u00a0transform\u00a0you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God\u2019s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.<\/em> NLT<\/p>\n Colossians 3:10\u00a0Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him<\/em>.
